BRENDON Goddard is expecting to spend more time in the St Kilda forward line this year.

Goddard has been outstanding for the Saints sweeping across the half-back line, but his role is set to evolve.

The 24-year-old has played 137 games for the Saints since being taken with the first pick in the 2002 NAB AFL Draft. He kicked four goals in the clash with West Coast early last season, but spent most of the year either in the backline or running through the midfield.

However, Goddard was not divulging much about where he was likely to play in Saturday night's NAB Cup quarter final against the Sydney Swans at Etihad Stadium.

"Everyone loves kicking goals, don't they?" he said. "All the forwards get paid the big money.

"I guess that's the role that (coach) Ross (Lyon) sees me playing for the team this year, and I'm willing to do that.

"I guess one of my strengths is my flexibility ... I play a role for the team, they may need me [up forward] from time to time, but in saying that, I might be down back.

"Things tend to change."

Meanwhile, Sydney Swan Jude Bolton said his side was relishing a pre-season relatively free of injury. The Swans are in the second round of the NAB Cup for the first time under coach Paul Roos.

"Normally we're off to Narrandera or just any part of the world," Bolton said.

"It's good to be down here and playing against a quality side.

"We've got a good mix of old and young on our list and we're fielding a really strong side.

"We've had a longer pre-season and we've been ready to play practice matches a number of weeks ago - we've been playing little scratch matches and things like that.

"Normally at this time of year we've had quite a large rehab or injury list, and it's just good that we're ready to compete."

Brendon Goddard is a $455,700 defender/midfielder
in this year's Toyota AFL Dream Team.

Jude Bolton is a $414,200 midfielder in this year's Toyota AFL Dream Team.
