ST KILDA star Brendon Goddard will not move to Carlton in a blockbuster trade this week, according to Blues chief executive Greg Swann, with the Saints declaring on Monday that he is not available and not to be discussed.

The contracted Goddard, 26, had been linked to Carlton on day one of trade week, with the Saints dealing with salary cap pressures that they say are manageable.

Swann did reveal that uncontracted Blues Paul Bower and Setanta O'hAilpin had asked to be traded in search of more playing opportunities, and his club would be involved in some minor deals this week as a result.

However, he said Carlton would not be in a position to chase a big name player like Goddard even if he was available.

"From a St Kilda point of view, they just came in and said that he's not available and not to be discussed," Swann told afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio.

"It didn't come from us that he was coming to us. From their perspective he's contracted and he'll stay.

"How do we get the deal done? We've got pick No.22 [and] we don't want to give up any of our young players.

"Really to get someone of his quality you're going to have to give something up. We don't want to do that, we want to develop what we've got."

Carlton announced three list changes on Monday, with Wayde Twomey, Joe Dare and Jaryd Cachia cut from the club's rookie list.

Meanwhile, young midfielder Dylan Buckley was secured at the father-son bidding meeting on Monday, with the Blues now poised to select the son of triple premiership player Jim Buckley with their final pick in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft.

Swann said the club was very happy to work out a deal for the 18-year-old from the Northern Knights, and the focus for the rest of this week would be on opening up spots on its list.

"We're very much minor players this week," he said. "We've got a couple of guys (Bower and O'hAilpin) that are looking for opportunities, and other than that we're pretty tight.

"We've still got our three picks, so we've got to move another person on, but hopefully we can find [new clubs for] a couple of guys that have asked us to find them a new home.

"We've got Dylan Buckley, which we were really pleased about, and we've kept our first and second picks. We'll use those, so it's really just freeing up numbers."

Asked about the prospect of trading defender Jordan Russell, Swann said the 24-year-old was rated highly and would be at Carlton in 2012.

He also said trading contracted midfielder Brock McLean had not been raised and "as far as we're concerned he's another guy who's on the list and he'll play again next year".

No trades are official until paperwork has been accepted by the AFL and formally recognised after 2pm on Monday, October 17.
