BRISBANE Lion Luke Power believes teammate Jonathan Brown will captain the Big V on Saturday night, despite concerns over an injured quad and pressure from coach Leigh Matthews to put the club side ahead of the Hall of Fame Tribute Match.
Brown has been suffering from a leg complaint that kept him out of the loss to Geelong on Saturday, and Matthews has said "there is a lot to lose" from playing unfit players in the state game.
He also recently expressed his concern over whether the power forward's injury would worsen should he play for Victoria.
However, Power said he is confident if Brown declares himself right to play, that Matthews, who also skippered the Victorian side, would soften his stance.
"He's a pretty intimidating character, Leigh, and I'm sure they'll talk about it and that common sense will prevail," Power said in Melbourne on Tuesday.
"If he's right to play, he'll play. They'll talk about it with the qualified people, physios and doctors, and they'll come to the right decision.
"At the end of the day, Leigh is intimidating but he also has a lot of common sense."
Power, 28, is one of four Lions in the two 30-man squads for the Hall of Fame Tribute Match, along with Brown, Daniel Bradshaw and Jamie Charman.
He said Brown, who claimed he is a "good chance of playing" on Monday night's Footy Classified program, will run out in the coveted Big V if he deems his quad strong enough to withstand a hit-out against the league's best.
"If Browny is right to play, Browny will play," he said.
"He was pretty close to playing against Geelong on the weekend. He's got a bit of tightness in the quad, and he was probably half a day, a day off playing against Geelong.
"I'm pretty sure that he'll be available and he'll play, and he'll be pretty keen to put on the jumper.
"He's a big boy and he deserves to be the captain, and he'll be fine for the rest of the year. He'll get through the game and he'll be fine."
