MELBOURNE football manager Chris Connolly says the club enquired about Lions superstar Jonathan Brown but was told "no thanks".
The 26-year-old is out of contract at the end of the year, and interest has bubbled along all year about the chance for the Victorian teams to lure him home.
So far, Collingwood is the only club to have put a concrete offer in front of the triple premiership player, but Connolly confirmed that the Demons had a crack.
"We contacted Jonathan Brown's manager and we said to his manager Glenn Warry: 'We're interested, can you tell [us] what it's all about?'," Connolly said.
"He got back to us and said: 'He has no interest in playing with the Melbourne Football Club'. And we said: 'That's fine'. All we want to know is black and white where we stand."
Connolly also discussed how impressed he was with promising youngsters Cale Morton and Colin Garland and how difficult it was to make the decision to trade 2005 best-and-fairest winner Travis Johnstone.
