SYDNEY Swan spearhead Barry Hall has shelved his boxing plans for at least one more year and committed to playing AFL, according to a report in the Sunday Herald-Sun.

After a meeting with Swans coach Paul Roos last week, Hall committed to playing out the final year of his contract and also discussed the possibility of playing on in 2010.

“I spoke to Hally and he’s kept me fully informed. He is committed to play with us next season,” Roos said.

“A lot of guys in Hally’s position start looking at what options are available to them after their footy playing days are over. I know what’s going on with Hally.”

Hall was in Perth on Saturday having a four-round sparring bout with former World Boxing Association light-heavyweight champion Danny Green.

Despite the risks, Roos said he had no problem with Hall taking part in the bout and said he was sure he would be ready to start pre-season training with the rest of the Swans’ senior players on November 17.

“He wants to establish in the short term whether boxing as a career in the future is an option to him or not,” Roos said.

“He is definitely committed to us for next season and maybe even the year after.

Barry’s got to think about his future and that’s fine. I told him that we’re supportive of what he wants to do and if we can help him in any way we will.”

Green has told The Sunday Age that he believes Hall has a solid future in boxing after the sparring bout.

"For a big man, Barry is surprisingly quick. He's excellent fighting off the back foot," Green said.

"He has a solid foundation. He'll need to do some work to be ready for a professional career, but he has the goods. He boasts the skills - and the technique - necessary to make it.

"He would attract a great following. He's six feet four, 102 kilos of muscle and is a robust, big bloke who has a presence. He'd be a huge hit."
