FREMANTLE forward Adam Campbell showed his ability with three long goals in Sunday's loss to St Kilda and he's hoping to finish off the season strongly.

Campbell has now strung two games together and booted five goals after being selected ahead of Ryan Murphy with Chris Tarrant out injured.

"I'm obviously not happy with the result but I thought I did all right last week and I was very conscious of backing that up," Campbell said.

"You have to able to kick those sorts of goals and especially early on it can boost the confidence of the team. When I got the call up to play Sydney my goal was to focus on the last four games and that's what I'm doing."

Campbell couldn’t continue his impressive first half largely due to those further up the ground for Fremantle dropping away and the New Zealand born 23-year-old knows the team's effort was unacceptable.

"The ball was a lot more stagnant in the second half, we weren’t winning the ball from the middle and it was very hard to lead and take a grab because of the slow movement and them getting numbers back," he said.

"We aren’t going to make any excuses, we dropped away in the second half and it's not good enough. We have two weeks to turn around a very disappointing performance on a day when we were sending off one of our greats in Peter Bell."

Tarrant's season-ending injury has given Campbell his chance and he has been picked ahead of Murphy, but the two continue to battle over that same spot.

"All we (Murphy and I) can do is go back and perform in the WAFL and when we get our opportunity grab it. I'd like to think I've done that even though I wasn’t that happy with my second half. Hopefully I can take what I did in the first half into next week."

Unlike many of his Fremantle teammates, Campbell's season will extend into September with West Perth playing in the WAFL finals and the big kicking forward is looking forward to teaming with the likes of Kepler Bradley, Mark Seaby, Callum Chambers, Troy Longmuir and Brent LeCras to push for a premiership.

In his 14 games with West Perth this season Campbell has kicked 35 goals, with a high of 10 against Peel Thunder in round eight.

"It's good to see the boys get up again and hopefully I have two more weeks to go with Fremantle and then I'll set my mind on finals with West Perth, but first and foremost I'm thinking about Richmond this week," he said.

"Seaby will also come back from West Coast so it's going to be good fun come September and hopefully I go into it having played two good games with Fremantle first."
