Below is a statement from Collingwood Football Club CEO Gary Pert.

I would like to clarify some information that was reported in the media today in relation to the conclusion of the Collingwood Football Club’s partnership with Aussie.

Collingwood launched its search for a new Premier Partner guernsey sponsor to replace Aussie earlier this year, as reported in the Herald Sun newspaper on 23 May. Following discussions between the two parties, Aussie agreed to step aside when its contract expired at the end of the 2010 season to allow Collingwood to finalise a partnership with Westpac to become the club’s official community partner with naming rights to the club’s training and administration facility, now known as the Westpac Centre.

Both Aussie and Westpac were happy to partner with Collingwood in 2010 but due to the fact that Aussie markets a range of financial institutions’ products including Westpac, this situation could not continue in the long-term given the compromises that were required by both parties in terms of branding and IP association.

Aussie has been a fantastic partner of Collingwood since it took on the sponsorship of the club as part of its acquisition of Wizard Home Loans.

The Collingwood Football Club is currently in talks with a number of interested parties regarding the guernsey sponsorship and will announce any developments in due course.

If there are any questions regarding this sponsorship or the new sponsorship of the guernsey, please contact me at the club.
