A STALEMATE between Fremantle and Collingwood over Chris Tarrant looms as the key deal on the last day of trade week, which concludes at 2pm on Monday.

Fremantle is looking for a NAB AFL Draft selection inside the top 50 for defender Tarrant, who is set on a move to Collingwood. However, The Age reported that the Magpies' pick 55, which was obtained from Freo as part of the Andrew Krakouer deal, could form part of an acceptable exchange.

The Herald Sun has a different take on the impasse, reporting that Fremantle wants Collingwood's second-round pick but the Magpies will only give up their fourth-rounder.

Both Melbourne papers report that Carlton looks set to be active on the final day trading.

Port Adelaide looms as Andrew Walker's only hope of reaching a new home on Monday after the Western Bulldogs completed a deal on Sunday to bring Brisbane Lion Justin Sherman to Whitten Oval.

The Dogs sent their end-of-first-round compensation pick to the Lions in exchange for Sherman on Sunday, leaving no room to move for Walker.

The Age says Walker could remain at Carlton, while his teammate Sam Jacobs' hopes of a move to Adelaide could also be dashed. The Blues have insisted on a first-round pick instead of the second-round pick offered by the Crows.

Adelaide has also rejected Carlton's requests for one of its young defenders.

The Herald Sun says a deal for Jacobs could yet be struck that involves a swap of first-round picks.

Meanwhile, the Blues are keen to trade forward Setanta O'hAilpin - who has been linked with the Sydney Swans - and defender Bret Thornton, according to the Herald Sun, while they have also expressed interest in Geelong defender Jeremy Laidler.

The Age reports Essendon midfielder Bachar Houli looks headed for the NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft with the Bombers struggling to cut a deal with Richmond, while the Herald Sun has suggested an exchange is all but certain.

The Age reports The Tigers have offered their third-round pick (No.47) but the Bombers want a second-rounder (No.29) instead.

Richmond has already boosted its midfield stocks by adding Carlton's Shaun Grigg in a direct swap for Andrew Collins on Saturday.

A deal to bring Western Bulldog Josh Hill to Hawthorn is also looking progressively less likely after the two clubs struggled to come to terms in weekend talks, according to The Age.

Other names reported as still waiting on deals include Richmond's Will Thursfield, North Melbourne's Gavin Urqhuart, Sydney Swan Paul Bevan, West Coast's Matthew Spangher and Hawthorn trio Beau Dowler, Beau Muston and Rick Ladson.
