Collingwood youngster Tyson Goldsack spoke to CTV after Monday’s loss to Melbourne at the MCG.

Playing in only his fourth league game after making his debut against the Bulldogs in round eight, the 20-year-old from Pakenham was part of an extremely inexperienced backline that was missing James Clement and Simon Prestigiacomo, but performed gallantly.

Goldsack stood Demon speedster Aaron Davey for most of the second half, and did an excellent job, showing tremendous pace and athleticism for a player of 191 centimetres.

The emerging Magpie, who was Collingwood’s fifth choice at No.63 overall in the 2006 AFL Draft, conceded though that losing Harry O’Brien early to a shoulder injury made it difficult for the young Magpie defence.

"It made it hard losing him (O’Brien), just having me, Stanners (first-gamer Danny Stanley), some other young boys, it was pretty tough at the start, we’ve done alright I suppose," Goldsack said in the rooms after the game.

With seven wins and four losses at the halfway point of the season and with a week off before taking on the Swans in Sydney, Goldsack remains confident the team can rebound strongly and build on its impressive start to the season.

"We’ve got a good team, so hopefully we can just keep winning and see how we go. It would’ve been better to be 8-3, but you just fight on, beat Sydney in a couple of weeks."

As for his own progress, Goldsack admitted to feeling a little "lethargic" after a month of senior football, but is happy with his development and thoroughly enjoying life as an AFL footballer.

"I’m still loving it, it’s a dream job. I’m coming along nicely, hopefully the week off will do me well, and I’ll come back fighting fit."
