Peter from Kingsbury (VIC)
Hi Peter, I’ve checked up on that and I can tell you he wore number 25 - the same number that big Bart McCulloch wears now.
Hi Ash, I've always wondered what happens to the Lions players' jumpers at the end of the season. Do the players get to keep them or are they given to the Club? Also, is each player given a certain number of jumpers before the start of the season?
Luke from Thornbury (VIC)
At the end of the season we get to keep one jumper if we’re lucky. The Club usually auctions the rest of them off.
We generally only get a couple of each jumper made at start of the season. If one gets ripped or damaged in a game, we just order a new one.
Hey Ash, I heard recently that you struggle to grow facial hair. Is this the reason behind your latest tattoo - a moustache inked on the inside of your index finger?
Josh from Norman Park (QLD)
No, I don’t struggle to grow facial hair. I’ve usually got some sort of growth going on.
As for the tattoo, it’s just a bit of a joke among the boys.
Are there many guys from your junior footy club playing in the AFL? Are you friends with any of them?
Travis from Carina (QLD)
I grew up playing with Ashley Sampi (West Coast), Mark Williams (Hawthorn/Essendon) and Andrew Krakouer (Richmond).
Mark Williams is the only one of the guys still running around in the AFL.
We’ve stayed friends over the years and I always try to catch-up with these guys when I have the chance.
How early do you have to arrive before a game?
Liam from Kenmore (QLD)
We usually get to games about two and half hours beforehand.
It gives you plenty of time to get strapped, have team meetings and do your warm-ups.
Just wondering why players seem to get benched immediately after kicking a goal?
Jas from Geelong (VIC)
I don’t think players get benched for kicking a goal, it’s got more to do with rotations. They have probably been told a few minutes earlier that they need to come off, but don’t get the chance until they kick a goal.
I guess a goal is a good break in play that lets players interchange pretty easily.
Hey Ash, I think Travis Johnstone looks like a real Lion, don’t you?
Aram from Mitcham (VIC)
Nah, I think Todd Banfield looks more like a lion than TJ.
To be honest, I don’t know what Trav looks like. He just looks like he has crawled out from under a bush.
Does Fev really listen to Miley Cyrus before games?
Joe from Mt Warren Park (QLD)
Yeah, he listens to Miley Cyrus and also the Jonas Brothers. It’s all on his iPod. He’s a bit out there is Fev.
I also heard he got a bit caught up when Justin Bieber came out to Australia as well.
To say I was a little disappointed by some of the calls the umpire made on the weekend is a bit of an understatement. When things look like they're not going your way in a game, how do you deal with it? Do you save it until later and work it off on a punching bag, or just try to shrug it off in general? By the way, I think you're playing very well this season! Keep it up.
Gareth from Jimboomba (QLD)
There really isn’t much you can do except just shrug it off.
You can’t say too much about the umpires as a player because it will probably end up costing you free kick or even a big fine. In the heat of the moment, you’re best to just stay away and move on.
