MILESTONES
Lions full-back Daniel Merrett will play his 50th AFL match this week against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium. Merrett was recruited by the Lions from local Queensland club Southport with pick 30 in the 2002 National AFL Draft.

FAST FOOTY FACTS
Prior to the start of the 2008 AFL Premiership Season, the Lions had played more matches against Port Adelaide than against any other team in the competition since the club’s merger in 1997.

Versatile Lions defender Joel Patfull is set to play against his former club for the third time. Patfull was originally a member of Port Adelaide’s Rookie List before being drafted by the Lions in 2005.

The Lions have won four of their past six matches at AAMI Stadium.

The last time these two sides met at AAMI Stadium, Jonathan Brown and Daniel Bradshaw kicked 13 goals between them as the Lions ran out 69-point winners.

The Lions and Power have a habit of playing close contests. Nine of the 21 matches played between these two sides have been decided by 10 points or less including two drawn matches.

The Lions and Port share a Club symmetry as well. Port entered the AFL from the SANFL in 1997 remodelled to its Power title while the Bears merged with Fitzroy to become the Lions who officially began playing in the AFL in Season 1997. A remarkable and tight rivalry has ensued ever since.

LAST TIME THEY MET
Trailing by 40 points early in the final term, the Lions picked themselves off the canvas to boot seven straight goals to lock the scores up and bring the Gabba crowd alive.

Unfortunately, the Power were able to score a late goal through Brett Ebert to seal the win.

Daniel Motlop was on fire for the visitors booting six goals including a spectacular banana from the forward pocket and both the Burgoyne and Cornes brothers were dominant.

Nigel Lappin and Luke Power had plenty of the ball while Jonathan Brown returned fresh from the mid-season break to monster Port Adelaide’s defence. Brown took 11 marks and finished with four goals to help bring the Lions back to near victory.

Brownlow Medal Votes: 3 – D. Motlop (PA), 2 - K. Cornes (PA), 1 - S. Burgoyne (PA)
