SYDNEY Swans utility Dean Towers is emerging as a potential trade target for a growing number of rival clubs.
Towers is due to come out of contract at the end of this season and the 26-year-old is attracting strong interest among opposition clubs, including some in his home state of Victoria and the Brisbane Lions.
Towers is understood to be happy in Sydney and realises the Swans' strong list should ensure they remain in premiership contention over the next few years.
However, the former North Ballarat VFL player has managed just five senior games this season despite outstanding form with the Swans' NEAFL team – he has been named in the best players in five of his seven games – and the opportunities he enjoys over the remainder of 2016 will likely shape his decision on his future.
If Towers can maintain the form he showed in round 13 against Melbourne, he will be hard to dislodge from the Swans' 22.
Recalled for his first game since round eight, Towers racked up a career-high 27 possessions against the Demons and kicked 2.2.
Towers is quick and, at 189cm, a strong overhead mark. He is probably best suited to the wing, but can also be damaging in attack.
The Colac product was the Swans' first pick in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft at No.22 overall, finally getting an AFL opportunity at the relatively advanced age of 22.
Since making his debut in round 17, 2014, Towers has played 22 games, including the Swans' two finals last year.
