COLLINGWOOD’S likely qualifying final win over the Western Bulldogs looks set to come at a cost with midfielder Sharrod Wellingham suffering a lower-leg injury.

Wellingham was running back for a high ball late in the third term and fell awkwardly after flying for the mark.

The 22-year-old immediately clutched at his right ankle and foot and appeared in significant pain.

He did not regain his feet and was assisted from the field by trainers.

Wellingham, one of the Pies’ big improvers this season, was taken straight up the race to the Pies’ change rooms.

By mid-way through the final term Wellingham had not returned to the Collingwood interchange bench.
