HAWTHORN has confirmed one of its players is being investigated by police for an alleged offence.
Police have spoken to two Hawthorn players as part of the investigation into the alleged sexual offence, however Hawthorn clarified on Friday night that one of the players - not a premiership player - was under investigation.
The other player is assisting enquiries.
"Contrary to recent media reports, there is one Hawthorn Football Club player currently under investigation by Victoria Police. That person is not a premiership player," the statement said.
Earlier on Friday, CEO Stuart Fox confirmed the investigation.
"Hawthorn Football Club is aware that police are investigating a report of an alleged offence involving one of its players," Fox said.
"As the matter is under investigation the club will not be making further comment at this time."
The offence is alleged to have occurred in Ashwood, according to Victoria Police.
