GEELONG defender David Wojcinski has spoken of his disappointment at being dropped from Saturday's grand final line-up, but the pacy defender harbours no ill will towards his coach or the club.
"It's what you play footy for, to play in a premiership and a grand final, but unfortunately I don't get to play. I'm still looking forward to the day, and hopefully the boys can bring it home for us," Wojcinski said at the 2008 Toyota AFL grand Final Parade in Melbourne on Friday.
"I was shattered yesterday, I was disappointed, but I've had a chat to a lot of people, some close friends, and life goes on. I'm here with a bunch of my best mates, it's a beautiful day and you can't get much better than that."
Cats' coach Mark Thompson gave Wojcinski the bad news in person after Thursday's training session at Skilled Stadium. An achilles injury in round 15 still lingers and was a major factor in his omission.
"Not playing enough games in the second half of the year didn't help. I was disappointed, but the injury just came at the wrong time," Wojcinski said.
"It's still pretty sore, but I've been able to play with it and train with it, so it hasn't hindered me at all. Missing so many games just didn't help at all though.
"I played last week and I thought I played OK, but it's just the fact that I haven't played so many games. It was a little bit hard, but life goes on."
The 28-year-old is confident the injury requires rest and not surgery, but says club doctors will monitor his condition in the coming weeks to determine which course of action to take.
Wojcinski takes some sort of solace from the fact that he was a member of last year's drought-breaking Geelong premiership side, but says he is still hungry for more grand final success.
"It is a little bit [of a consolation] because last year was one of the best days of my life, but at the same time it's disappointing that I won't get to experience that again this time," he said.
"I think it will [be motivation for next year] a little bit because that's why you play.
"You play to win premierships and next year's another chance. We're obviously another chance to play off next year [for a] premiership; we've got such a good bunch of blokes down there."
