When the game was on the line against Richmond on Saturday, off-season recruit Peter Everitt stood tall.
'Spida' ended the contest with 16 kicks, nine marks, three tackles, 28 hit-outs after starting the game and two goals. He also set up a couple six-pointers.
Speaking at recovery on Sunday morning at Clovelly beach, Everitt was happy with his game and the victory after struggling to get into the Eagles game.
"Last week wasn't the best of games so it was good to get a good hit-out, get a couple of kicks and a few grabs," Everitt said.
"They had (their experienced ruckmen) Simmons and Knobel out, but it was still good to get a pretty good game under the belt, and more importantly it was great to get a first win."
Despite a distinguished 254-game career, Everitt still feels he needs to prove himself at the Swans.
"(Proving yourself) always sits in the back of your mind when you go to a new club," he said.
"You always want to get a good game and win out of the way and I was able to achieve that yesterday.
"There's no doubt you want to prove your worth but unfortunately it's only one week.
"Being able to run out a game, play 60 minutes, I thought myself and Jols (Darren Jolly) really operated well. We got our hand to the ball, set up a couple of goals and just controlled the stoppages."
Coach Paul Roos felt 'Spida' had a reasonable game in round one but was "super" in the Tigers win.
"I think he would have been excited after the game that he's really gained the respect of his new teammates and the supporters, that's what you want to do when you come to a new club."
