Port Adelaide will consider overnight whether to accept a one-game penalty for tough youngster Matt Thomas, who was cited by the AFL’s match review panel on Monday evening.

Thomas was charged with engaging in rough conduct against Geelong’s Andrew Mackie during the third quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Cats.

The match review panel released its findings as follows...

The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 168.75 demerit points and a one-match sanction.

Thomas can accept a one-game penalty or face the tribunal where he will forgo his 25% guilty-plea discount and face a two game ban if the tribunal agrees with the findings of the match review panel.

The last time a Power player was charged by the match review panel was in Round 5 when Shaun Burgoyne took his charge of rough conduct against Lenny Hayes of St Kilda to the tribunal and was successful in having the case dismissed.

The Power will advise the AFL of its decision on Tuesday morning.
