COACH Dean Bailey wants the grand final to remain at the MCG, but would be happy to play the finale anywhere and anytime - as long as his Demons are involved.

The AFL has flagged the possibility of shifting the grand final from the MCG in 2011, after Cricket Victoria said it would not let the League play football at the ground in October.

With Gold Coast set to join the competition next year, the AFL is planning to stage the grand final on October 1.

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou said on Thursday the League “might have to play it elsewhere” if Cricket Victoria stood firm. Cricket Victoria controls the MCG from October 1.

Bailey was asked his thoughts on the issue during Friday’s media conference at AAMI Park.

“I’d be happy to play the grand final anywhere they like - as long as we’re in it,” he said.

“Obviously it’d be nice to play on our home ground at the MCG - the greatest place to play footy is across the road [at the MCG].

“It’s the best ground in the world, so I’d be keen if they kept it to the MCG.”

But Bailey expects the AFL and Cricket Victoria to negotiate a deal, which sees the grand final remain at the MCG in 2011.

“The AFL and the VCA (Cricket Victoria), I’m sure they’ll get together … and some common sense and the best result will come from it,” he said.

“It’s the best ground in the world to play footy on, so I’m sure we’ll be keen to play there.”
