After a breakthrough season in 2009, Jesse White is again looking to make his mark on the Swans’ forward line in 2010. Changes in team structure and the loss of two of his mentors - Barry Hall and Michael O’Loughlin - may have rattled his nerves, but the welcome addition of power forward Daniel Bradshaw has restored the 22-year-old’s confidence for the season ahead.

“I’m pretty excited... I was a bit worried at the end of last season that there’d be extra pressure on me, but having Bradshaw in the forward line and Goodesy there, there’s more players for me to keep learning from,” White said.

With round one of the pre-season competition looming, White says the team is “looking good”.

“One of the biggest things for us to work on was getting to know the new players and getting used to everyone, but it’s all coming together really well now and we’re really looking forward to it.”

Q&A

Who’s the best player you’ve ever played against and why?: Probably Matthew Scarlett from Geelong, he is just so smart and has a lot of experience.

Who is your AFL idol and why?: Growing up it was Michael Voss, he was one of the leaders of the Brisbane Lions when I was younger and great to watch.

What are your current strengths?: Being a tall, mobile forward.

How is your training regime coming along?: There’s a bit less running and more skill work now, it’s more 90-minute skills session as we’re heading into game time.

What are your goals in 2010?: I’m not trying to put too much pressure on myself, I’m only young and still learning, so hopefully I just play every game and take it as it comes.

Who are your mentors among the coaches?: Through pre-season I’ve got Stuart Maxfield, who’s really good for player development, and John Blakey is my line coach, he takes care of the forwards. They’re both really good help.

Which player is your mentor?: With Bradshaw moving in, he’s number 19 and I’m number 18 so we’re next to each other in the locker room and we chat every day about things, and I think we’ll work together well.

How is preparation for the pre-season cup game at Blacktown coming along?: Roosy said he’s going to pick a good side and whoever’s ready to play, so we’re really looking forward to playing a good game.
