COLLINGWOOD midfielder Tarkyn Lockyer believes the Magpies could be strengthened by the return of four forwards for their round nine clash with West Coast on Saturday at Subiaco.

Lockyer said the inclusion of players such as Paul Medhurst, Alan Didak, Dale Thomas and Anthony Rocca, combined with the prospect of an interstate trip, could be just the tonic the Pies need to rebound from their 51-point loss to Carlton.

"Medders will definitely be back, Didak is not far away, Thomas should be okay," Lockyer said, after Sunday's defeat at the MCG.

"Pebs (Rocca) is just a bit sore so possibly we could get four back.

"One positive is we get to travel next week to Perth, and we generally travel pretty well as a side.

"We'll get away from Melbourne and have that inner sanctum of guys get together for 48 hours with the game as our sole focus.

"It's another challenge, West Coast at home, and we've got to turn it around."

The Magpies made seven changes for their clash with the Blues after a costly encounter with St Kilda last Monday night.

Lockyer said the change of routine affected the side but was no excuse for its tardy start against the Blues.

"You'd like to think the guys coming through are prepared and know their role and are willing to play that role for us," he said.

"We've got no qualms about bringing those guys in. It's just the familiarity of playing along the same guys each week, which makes it difficult.

"The form of the guys that came in from the VFL was pretty good, so it was just one of those things.

"When you start the way Carlton did, hungry and aggressive and outplaying us, we were just too slow getting the ball inside 50.

"After quarter-time I thought we were competitive, but when you give away a six-goal start, it makes it very difficult to get back into it."

Lockyer agreed it was unusual for him to top the side's goal-kicking tally as did on Sunday when he equalled Jack Anthony's score of two majors.

"Something is not quite going right when that happens," he said.

"The inside 50s we won, and the way it was going in early on was not advantageous to the forward line.

"That's something we have to address and something we'll work on during the week."
