In a surprise to many Magpie supporters, former Carlton champion Robert Walls was the only member of the judging panel to feature Reid in his voting (one vote).
Drafted as a prospective key forward, the young Magpie played his first seven games kicking for goal before a career-defining moment occured in the final round of the 2009 VFL season. On the recovery road from a broken foot, he was given a final round game at centre half-back and went on the play a standout role.??
Since that moment the high-draft selection (overall pick eight in 2006) put in a strong preseason as a defender and has earned his place in Scott Watters’ defensive group.
