Geelong forward Jason Snell is making good progress after major surgery on the ankle he broke against Melbourne at the MCG on Monday.

Snell suffered the injury to his tibia during the third quarter and so major was the fracture that reportedly, there was bone breaking through the surface of his skin.

He also suffered the dubious honor of becoming the first player to be carried from the ground on one of the AFL's new injury buggies.

Geelong team doctor Hugh Seward today put as positive a spin on the injury as possible. ``Jason had surgery overnight to repair the ankle joint and the surgery went well.''

``He will be in hospital for the next three to four days.''
