HAWTHORN midfielder Brad Sewell will play his first match of the season against North Melbourne on Sunday.

Sewell has not played since injuring his collarbone in the pre-season but teammate Luke Hodge confirmed on Monday afternoon that he would return.

Sewell will be joined by Lance Franklin and Liam Shiels, who return from suspension while Sam Mitchell should be fit to play despite going off injured against Collingwood last Saturday.

Sewell’s teammate Luke Hodge said he would have no concern about his ability to fit straight in after a long layoff.

“Sewelly has got a natural fitness," Hodge said on Monday afternoon. "He is a ball hunter and that’s something we were very disappointing at on Saturday night.

"He’s been training very hard so I reckon he’d come straight in.”

The Hawks have just one win in the bank after a tough first month where they lost to the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood and Geelong.

It looks set to be an easier month ahead with the Hawks taking on North Melbourne, Essendon, West Coast and Richmond which Hodge said would give his side a better gauge on its form.

“You look at our first four games, it was always going to be tough,” he said.

“To look at our next month, we are confident that with the footy we played in the first three games coming into the next couple of weeks they are very winnable games for us.”

Hodge said the Hawks would have a light week on the training track on the back of two consecutive six-day breaks.

“You don’t have a main session because you are trying to recover from the game," he said.

"We’ll have a full hit out on Wednesday to get a bit of run back in the legs and we’ll freshen up for Sunday.”
