Cameron said he played in defence for half a season in 2011 while playing for the Giants in the NEAFL.
However, he has made his name as a key forward since making his debut with the Giants in round 1, 2012.
"I don't mind the spot and if I got put there I'd be more than happy to play it," Cameron told Fox Footy's On The Couch.
The 20-year-old earned All Australian selection in just his second year of AFL football, kicking 62 goals in 21 games.
He finished third on the goalkicking table in a team that won just one game and averaged 40 inside-50s per game.
Cameron won the Giants' best and fairest in 2013 and says he has adjusted to city life after being recruited from Dartmoor in Victoria.
Still maturing as a player, Cameron said he was hoping to add some weight to his 94-kilogram frame over the summer.
"I will be doing a lot of weights this off-season," Cameron said. "I think we'll be in the gym a lot."
Franklin has been linked to Greater Western Sydney since he put off negotiations with Hawthorn until the end of the season.
He has kicked 58 goals this season and will line up for the Hawks in Friday night's preliminary final against Geelong at the MCG.
There has been speculation that Cameron may play in defence if Franklin joined the Giants and the 2010 No.1 draft pick Jonathan Patton recovered from his knee reconstruction to return to the forward line.
