WEST Coast has signed Nic Naitanui to a three-year contract extension that puts him out of the reach of Greater Western Sydney.

The Giants will have the ability to sign uncontracted players in the same way Gold Coast was able to lure the likes of Gary Ablett and Nathan Bock this year, but the 20-year-old was delighted to have secured his future with the Eagles.

"I wasn't going anywhere," Naitanui said. "This is a young and exciting group. There is already a strong bond between everyone at the club and I want to be a part of that for the next five to 10 years.

"It's great to have this done so early. Pre-season is going well, there is a good vibe around the club and all the boys are working hard.

"I can't imagine being anywhere else."

Naitanui was the second player picked at the 2008 NAB AFL Draft and has played 32 games since debuting against Richmond in round 12 of the 2009 season.

The athletic ruckman received a NAB Rising Star nomination in his second year of AFL football which also saw him finish fifth in the club's best-and-fairest count.

"It's fantastic for Nic and fantastic for our club," chief executive Trevor Nisbett said.

"Nic is a vital cog in our future and he is fast developing into a marquee player.

"He is learning all the time and has a great thirst for knowledge. Not only is Nic one of our key players of the future, but he is also an outstanding character who has a lot to offer our club."

The contract extension binds Naitanui to the Perth club until the end of the 2014 season.
