CARLTON forward Eddie Betts says the Blues must put their “bodies on the line” if they’re to achieve victory over Fremantle at the Telstra Dome on Saturday. The Blues suffered a 33-point defeat to the Brisbane Lions at the Dome last weekend.

Brisbane were just harder than us at the contest and really threw their bodies on the line, which we didn’t do much of,” Betts said.

“So we’ve really focused this week on putting our bodies on the line and putting our head over the ball. We weren’t very hard at it last week so we’ve made it a focus to be harder this week and to be aggressive. It’s a big opportunity but Fremantle are looking to get a win too so they’ll come out firing.”

Carlton has lost its last nine matches against Fremantle and a long injury list this weekend won’t help the cause. However Betts believes it will be a chance for new personnel to shine.

“It’s a chance for the younger guys to come up and put their name on the game and show what they can do,” he said.

Top of the casualty list is ruckman Cameron Cloke, which makes facing the biggest ruckman in the competition an even bigger challenge for the Blues.

“We’ve just got to be aggressive with the big (Aaron) Sandilands and hopefully get on top of him because he’s so tall. If the boys jump into him hopefully they can stop him.”
