THE AFL expects a resolution to the Lachie Whitfield case 'in the next week or so' after the young Giant was alleged to have breached the AFL's anti-doping code, says CEO Gillon McLachlan.

An ASADA spokesperson told AFL.com.au on Tuesday that the two bodies were in communication after Whitfield reportedly stayed at former Giants welfare manager Craig Lambert's house, in an alleged attempt to avoid drug testers.

McLachlan would not comment on whether he expected an infraction notice to be handed down.

"Our team is working through it with ASADA, the right way forward and the process for that. Clearly it's something that a decision needs to be made sooner rather than later and I'm optimistic (it happens) in the next week or so," McLachlan said on Wednesday.

"The decision hasn't been made … and our guys have been in regular contact with them (ASADA) about making the decision."
