Rick Forster details his match day - from breakie with baby to the Hawks after-match function.

After having last weekend off from watching Hawthorn play I am feeling refreshed and eager - which I’m sure is an understatement of how the players must be feeling.

Having some key personal back for the big game against Sydney is a welcome sight. Brad Sewell amongst others has been sorely missed.

Game day begins with a ritual early rise with my one year old daughter. After a quick breakfast we are off for a brisk walk through the local parks where we come across other keen Hawthorn supporters wearing team clothing. We greet each other like any other morning but also comment on our keen anticipation of the match ahead.

By the time the walk is completed and parenting duties have been transferred to the better half, I am off to catch the train to Richmond and head into the ground. Many hawks fans are also travelling into the “G” and the excitement and expectation is building. A quick detour past the HawksNest stall to pick up a new top kindly put aside for me and it's off to my seat.

Many familiar faces are already present and the weather is improving which all leads me to believe that the footy Gods are on our side today. The game proves to be enthralling and after a tense first half with some very dubious free kicks paid against us we are up by 5 goals at half time. The second half was an arm wrestle but in the last quarter the cream rose to the top and a comfortable win was registered against a side we haven’t beaten for over three years.

The after game function was great with Stuart Dew, Jordan Lewis and Chance Bateman assuring us they would be ready for St Kilda next week. Jarrod Morton, Brad Sewell and Campbell Brown then came along for good measure and a chat to top off a great day that further cemented our spot in the top four.

Next week can’t come quick enough as the business end of the season sets upon us. We look to be coming into the right sort of form at just the right time of the season.
