HAWTHORN has named both Chance Bateman and Trent Croad in the line up to face St Kilda in their preliminary final at the MCG on Saturday night.

Both were under an injury cloud, with Croad bruising his foot in the qualifying final win over the Western Bulldogs and Bateman rolling his ankle at training on Tuesday.

However Hawks' football manager Mark Evans is confident both are right to play.

"The approach we took with Trent was to go easy on him last week, but he ran at the end of the week and trained earlier on this week and trained again today and trained well," Evans said on Thursday.

"Chance rolled his ankle on Tuesday and came off and had it re-strapped, but he trained today and looks to be okay."

The only change to the 22 that defeated the Dogs is the inclusion of Xavier Ellis, who comes in for the injured Cameron Stokes.

"He (Stokes) had some hamstring tightness in the last game we played.

"We were pretty confident it was settling down pretty well but after Tuesday's training session he had some tightness again, so that rules him out of contention for this week."

Evans said that Ellis was delighted to get the call up for the blockbuster clash.

"Xavier was desperately unlucky to be out of the team so he'll fit back in well and will be quite happy with that."
