COLLINGWOOD father-son prospect Darcy Moore will play with the Oakleigh Chargers next year as he weighs up his involvement with the AIS-AFL Academy.

As the Magpies haven't committed to Moore, the son of dual Brownlow medallist Peter will play in the TAC Cup and not with the Collingwood VFL side.

It was previously mooted he may have spent next season developing in the VFL, with Moore completing his year 12 VCE at Carey Grammar this year, but that is not part of the plans for his draft season.

Meanwhile, the athletic 197cm key position player is in conversation with the prestigious Academy about his involvement with the program over the next six to eight months.

Moore missed the 2013/2014 intake's first camp in September after being given time to focus on his studies, and will not be available for its week-long stint at the Gold Coast in November as he has a trip planned overseas.

Unlike the case of North Melbourne's father-son Luke McDonald, who last year left the Academy to play for the club's VFL affiliate Werribee, Moore has not yet been signed to the Magpies.

After off-season surgery on his hip last year, Moore had finger surgery and also broke his toe, meaning he has missed significant chunks of the last two seasons.

Some clubs believe McDonald will mark the end of clubs agreeing to father-son arrangements more than a year from their respective drafts, as the prospect of the expansion clubs mini-draft no longer remains.

Three of the most recent father-son picks – McDonald, Essendon's Joe Daniher and Melbourne's Jack Viney – were eligible for their respective season's 17-year-old mini-draft, but instead chose to commit to their fathers' clubs early.

Peter Moore played 172 games for Collingwood and 77 games for Melbourne, meaning only the Magpies can draft Darcy as a father-son pick.

While Moore may have some involvement with the Academy, it has added a new member to its squad in Eastern Ranges forward Christian Petracca.

Petracca, who was notified last week of his inclusion, starred for the Ranges in the TAC Cup finals series, kicking five goals in the preliminary final.

Next year's draft is viewed as rich in talent, particularly in the key-position area.
