East Coast's winning streak continued on the weekend with Campbelltown going down by 58 points.
The East Coast Eagles’ winning streak continued and even though they did not produce their best football they still managed to beat Campbelltown by 58 points.
In a game that never reached great heights the Eagles always looked in control. They increased their lead at every change and ran out comfortable winners 17.17 (119) to 9.7 (61).
Gus Seebeck was a shining light up front with eight goals. Luke Stanford and Jason Coulloupas were dominant through the middle and Rowan Bilkey and Phil Entwisle again dominated down back as well as setting up many attacking raids.
With names like Vlatko, Smyth, Stubbs and Furlan sitting on the sidelines what it does show is that there is great depth in the club for these players not to play and still come away with a comfortable win.
It sets up a mouth-watering game against St George who also sits on 40 points and in equal second position with the Eagles. It is a game all Eagles supporters should get to at 2.10pm next Saturday at Charles McLaughlin Reserve.
The reserves continued their dominant form against a under strength Campbelltown. The Eagles ran out winners by 34.14 (218) to nothing.
In what was little more than a training run it was great to see the discipline shown by all players in sticking to team rules and structures.
Peter Vlatko in his first game for the club showed he will be a handy acquisition for the Eagles and finished with six goals. Adam Tovell put in one of his best performances for the year, Nathan Laing made a good return to form and Cory Durie continued on his good form.
The most impressive win on the day was the Premier Cup team who took over second spot from Campbelltown with an impressive 29-point win. The team bounced back after the disappointment of the week before and showed that when they put it together they can challenge any side.
The final scoreboard read the Eagles 14.9 (93) to 10.4 (64).
The return of leader Jason Moeller gave the team the lift it needed. Justin Steer was dominant up front with five goals and Matt Power and Josh Shepherd worked hard all day.
The Challenge Cup could not kept up with the Southern Sharks and after leading at quarter-time they fell away to lose by 14.13 (97) to 5.7 (37). Matt Bailey and Phil Cocks were two that gave 100% effort for the whole game.
The Eagles are back at Charles McLaughlin Reserve next Saturday taking on the St George Crows and the action starts at 10.00am with the Premier Cup and finishes with seniors at 2.10pm. The main game is one not to be missed.
The Challenge Cup team takes on Moorbank Sports on Sunday at 12.00pm at Rosedale Oval.
