CARLTON has announced the re-signing of in-form duo in forward Andrew Walker and Kade Simpson to three-year contract extensions.

President Stephen Kernahan announced the deal at his pre-match lunch before the clash against Melbourne at the MCG.

The Blues offered Walker up for trade at the end of last season, where he was almost shipped off to Adelaide but has thrived in a move forward, kicking 46 goals to sit 5th in the Coleman Medal chase.

Simpson has been in superb form and has been a key player in the Blues' successes so far this year.

Kernahan said the signings were a big coup for the club.

"It's great to have these two blokes," he said.

"Andrew Walker has been fantastic this season, injury-free and going well and Simmo is the barometer of this football club."

"It's great to have them on board."

Walker, who was picked by Carlton at number two in the 2003 draft, has been reinvigorated playing as a medium-sized forward this season and is pushing strongly for All Australian selection.

His high-flying style has proven both popular and effective, capped with his spectacular grab over Essendon's Jake Carlisle in round 18.

But it is his goal kicking and his pressure in the forward 50 that has elevated his standing in the game.

Walker told carltonfc.com.au he was looking forward to continuing his association with the club.

"It's a relief, a real weight off my mind," Walker said.

"You really want to get these sorts of things out of the way to get on with your football, but they do take time and now that it's happened, I'm rapt.

"You'd have to be crazy to want to leave the Carlton Football Club at the minute, because there's such a good vibe and everyone can see the bigger picture."

Meanwhile, CEO Greg Swann has given the biggest indication yet that coach Brett Ratten will be at the helm when his contract expires at the end of the year.

Swann told SEN Ratten is doing everything right in his bid to continue as the senior coach.

"Absolutely, he's in front," Swann said.

"We've improved and that's what we've spoken about.

"Something disastrous would have to happen for him not be reappointed."

Swann said Ratten understands what is needed to take the next step.

"He's (Ratten) got us into the finals, he's got us in to good positions, now it's about getting better," Swann said.

"There's no dramas with us, there's no dramas with Ratts, everything's going well.

"There's no doubt he's coaching better this year, than he was last [year]."
