The Blues skipper reaches free agent status this year, but Fairfax Media reports he's close to inking a deal similar to the one that saw Dale Thomas cross to the club from Collingwood.
With Carlton having recently tied Andrew Walker to the club for a further three seasons, Murphy's signature would leave fellow number-one NAB AFL Draft pick Bryce Gibbs as the club's best non-contracted player.
Gibbs has attracted substantial interest from his home state, with both Adelaide and Port Adelaide keen to lure the free agent back to South Australia.
His former teammate-turned Crows star Eddie Betts said he, along with former Blue Sam Jacobs, would speak to the 24-year-old to try and convince him to make the move.
Carlton will take on the Western Bulldogs on Friday in its last pre-season hit out before facing the Power in the opening round of the 2014 premiership season.
