A 44-POINT win over Hawthorn on Saturday has sparked renewed optimism among football pundits about the Sydney Swans' finals chances but coach Paul Roos won't abide talk of September just yet.

With 10 wins under their belt, the Swans may need just one more victory to earn a finals berth.

They even remain a chance of hosting a final in the first week but Roos sent a warning that anything other than focus on Saturday's clash against Fremantle at Subiaco would not be tolerated.

"I'm not interested in talking about finals … to talk about finals at this stage is very, very premature," he said on Monday.

"If any of our players are talking about finals, they should be talking about this week against Freo. We've got three games to go and we're playing at Subiaco this week. That's all I care about.

"If any of our players are talking about playing finals, that's certainly unlike us as a footy club."

Roos said he would look for the entire squad to emulate the work rate of midfielder Kieren Jack, who amassed 27 touches, five tackles and nine clearances to lead the Swans to victory against the Hawks.

"It was probably his best game for the club, which was a real credit to him," Roos said.

"You get some of those younger guys starting to lift towards the end of the year when sometimes they get a bit tired so it was a really important game for him, personally, and the club. Hopefully he keeps building momentum for the rest of the season."

The Swans will face a Fremantle side fresh from a 54-point loss to North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium, but Roos said he would plan for the home side to produce its very best at Subiaco on Saturday.

He said the absence of Chris Tarrant, Hayden Ballantyne, Michael Barlow and potentially Aaron Sandilands would have no bearing on the Swans' mental approach to the contest.

In any case, Roos suggested injuries to Swans Craig Bolton, Mark Seaby, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Craig Bird and Daniel Bradshaw evened the ledger.

"You'd rather have your better players playing but that's the reality of where we are at the footy club," he said.

"I don't think [Fremantle coach Mark Harvey] is worried about who's not playing and I'm not worried about who's not playing either. You try to play as well as you possibly can with the players you've got and that's all you can do."

In positive medical news, defender Nick Smith is likely to return against Fremantle while Bradshaw and Roberts-Thomson are pegged for a round-21 return against the Western Bulldogs.
