Charges laid
Maverick Weller, St Kilda, has been charged with charged with striking Rohan Bewick, Brisbane Lions, during the fourth quarter of the round nine match between St Kilda and the Brisbane Lions, played at the Gabba on Sunday May 31, 2015.
In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Brisbane Lions Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as intentional conduct with low impact to the head. The offence was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a one-match sanction.
Other matters assessed:
Contact between Richmond's Trent Cotchin and Essendon’s Jake Carlisle from the half-time break of Saturday’s match was assessed. The players were moving from the ground at half-time when the teams came together. Player Carlisle was next to Cotchin when the Richmond player pushed him with an open hand to the chest area. It was the view of the panel that Cotchin's action was not a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
