MELBOURNE has quickly turned its mind to draft picks after missing out on landing either Robert Warnock or Brent Prismall during trade week.

"During trade week, we had an interest in Prismall and Warnock, and that's well documented but at the end of the day, we weren't able to arrange them to come to the Melbourne Football Club,” general manager of football operations Chris Connolly said after Friday's 2pm deadline.

"We've been able to keep all our picks, and as Dean Bailey said at our club champion night, we'll look to build our club through the draft.

"We're very excited about the opportunities that are on offer when that comes around."

Prismall will join Essendon after being traded for pick 39, while Warnock went to Carlton in a deal that saw the Blues pick up the ruckman and pick 69, and Fremantle receive picks 24, 56 and 72 in return.

Melbourne made a strong play for Warnock, going as far as arranging an MCG presentation for the young Fremantle big man.

Connolly said it was disappointing to miss out on the ruckman, whose brother Matthew is already a Demon, but he was now looking ahead to the November 29 NAB AFL National Draft.

"That's all part of the process. We've been working on Robbie Warnock for over 12 months, in terms of presenting an opportunity, but that's how it plays out," he said.

"That's all part of the business, and we're very much moving forward now to the national draft."

The Demons might have missed out on both of its trade week targets, but the club left Telstra Dome on Friday satisfied that Brad Green would remain a Demon for another three years.

Green, 27, came out of contract after the 2008 season and several clubs made him offers during trade week.

However, he decided to stay at Melbourne and signed on for another three years, which should ensure he finishes his days in red and blue.

“Brad Green, one of the great champions of our club and terrific leader, we're absolutely rapt that he's going to re-sign for three years," Connolly said.

Connolly also said he was confident the relationship between the Demons and Green would continue to be strong.

"It was always an outstanding [relationship]," he said.

"We've always been up front and honest, and I think Brad got to the stage of his career at 27 where it was a very important contract in his life, and he had to look at the opportunities in terms of winning a premiership or whether to become a leader of a club that's rebuilding itself.

"We're glad he's chosen to be a strong part of our leadership group and he's been an outstanding performer over the last three few years.

"Sydney had a strong interest and there was an early draft pick linked into that, and that got played out in the end.

"The opportunities didn't present so we're happy to have Brad back at the club as one of our leaders."
