NORTH MELBOURNE ruckman Hamish McIntosh showed off his knowledge of the art of modern rucking in this week's episode of Personal Best on AFL.com.au.

His task was to name the best ruckmen of the last 25 years and among those on his list were the Madden brothers - Justin and Simon.

Of Justin, he said: "People forget how good a tap ruckman he was relationship with (Greg) Williams and (Brett) Ratten and others was first class. When Carlton was successful in the 90s it was because he was putting the ball down those guys' throats."

As for Simon Madden, McIntosh said he would have been a brilliant footballer in the modern game. "Just a fantastic player. To play 378 games as a forward and ruck would be perfect for our type of footy. He was a great tap ruckman."

McIntosh clearly liked the mobile types of big men. Peter Everitt, Dean Cox and Jim Stynes also feature on his list, while more traditional big men such as Scott Wynd, Brendon Lade and Aaron Sandilands also make the cut.
