THE BRISBANE Lions have been dealt a massive blow with news that skipper Jonathan Brown will require surgery for multiple facial fractures.

Brown will go under the knife early next week after he clashed with Fremantle's Luke McPharlin in Saturday night's loss.

He will remain in hospital until doctors have cleared him. It is unclear how long he will be sidelined.

Fellow Lion Brent Staker will have scans on Monday on his right knee after injuring himself in the same match.

Mitch Clark (head) and Claye Beams (hip) have been cleared of any serious injury.

Clark, who was dazed during a contest in the fourth quarter, was cleared to return to the game by club doctor, Paul McConnell, after passing a standard concussion test.
