Port Adelaide will contest Shaun Burgoyne’s charge at the AFL tribunal on Tuesday evening. The club advised the AFL on Tuesday morning it had decided not to accept the AFL match review panel’s offer of a two-game ban, meaning Burgoyne will front the tribunal.Burgoyne will remain in Adelaide for the hearing, which will begin at 4.30pm (SA time) on Tuesday. The Power superstar, who is one of the favourites for the Brownlow Medal, was charged on video evidence on Monday afternoon with engaging in rough conduct against Lenny Hayes during the second quarter of Friday night’s win over St Kilda. This is how the AFL’s match review panel assessed the incident...The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 243.75 points and a two-match sanction.Having now given up the 25% discount for an early guilty plea, Burgoyne will face a three-game ban if the tribunal agrees with the findings of the AFL’s match review panel. The Power faces Melbourne (MCG), Richmond (AAMI Stadium) and Sydney (SCG) in the next three weeks.PortAdelaideFC.com.au will have the verdict as soon as it is handed down.
