A selection of Victoria Metro’s most talented young footballers will take part in a training camp this weekend in preparation for the 2023 NAB AFL Under-18 National Championships.

The camp will be held at The Hangar, home of the Essendon Football Club, and will feature a host of talented 16 and 17-year-old boys and girls who feature as part of the Victoria Metro regions that compete in the NAB League.

The girls squad will participate in a training camp across Friday and Saturday, while a camp for the boys squad will run on Saturday and Sunday.

Six players in the 2023 NAB AFLW Academy have been named in the girls’ squad, including Amy Gaylor, Alyssia Pisano, Laura Stone, Jess Vukic, Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner and Kiera Whiley.

2023 NAB AFL Academy representatives Nate Caddy, William Green, William Lorenz, Nathan Philactides, Archie Roberts and Nick Watson have been named in the boys squad, along with Mahmoud Taha, who is a member of the Bachar Houli Academy.

The boys squad also features several players with links to current and former AFL players.

Levi Ashcroft is the brother of 2022 NAB AFL Draft second pick Will Ashcroft and Vigo Visentini is the brother of current Port Adelaide player Dante Visentini. Meanwhile, Jordan Croft is the son of former Western Bulldogs player Matthew Croft, who played 186 games for the Bulldogs.

All players attending this weekend’s training hub will be given an induction into high-performance and wellbeing programs. They will receive medical screenings, individual development plans and partake in football training sessions.

The introductory camp will be followed by another training camp early in 2023, with the boys squad to reconvene in January and the girls squad to come together again in February.

Additional players will be added to both squads in preparation for trial matches ahead of the 2023 NAB AFL Under-18 National Championships.

Northern Knights girls coach Allana Dickie has been appointed coach of the Victoria Metro girls team, while Jason Davenport will continue as coach of the boys’ team.

A training hub for the Victoria Country boys and girls squads was conducted at The Hangar last weekend.
