GREATER Western Sydney believes it is well prepared for next year as a host of its stars become free agents at the end of 2019.

Dylan Shiel, Stephen Coniglio, Adam Tomlinson and Nick Haynes are among the important Giants who are tied to the club until the end of next season, when they will enter free agency for the first time.

Brilliant midfielder Josh Kelly will also be out of contract at the end of next year after agreeing to a two-year extension last season.

Recruiting manager Adrian Caruso told AFL.com.au's Road to the Draft podcast the club was aware of the challenges of retaining its key players, but the group was striving to achieve success together.

"It's going to be difficult. What we've found across the last few years since free agency came in is that most players who are free agents don't tend to sign too early so they will play it out a bit," Caruso said.

"Some of them might sign over summer, some of them might sign early next year, some of them might be later next year. It's all an unknown really.

"There's no guarantees that all of those guys are going to leave or any of them are going to leave because all of them have re-signed numerous times in the past, probably when other clubs were confident they were going to get them and that we were a bit dubious about whether we'd be able to keep them.

"The culture that we've built through (coach) Leon [Cameron] and (CEO) Dave [Matthews] down, and the success we've had the last few years, these guys want to be part of that. We just need to continue to focus on that, and hopefully it takes cares of itself."

The Giants have worked hard to retain their young talent and extend the deals of early draft picks Tim Taranto, Will Setterfield, Harry Perryman and Aiden Bonar well before they were due to come out of contract.

Shiel continues to be linked to a possible move back to Victoria, but the 25-year-old last month quashed any chance he would explore a change of clubs at the end of this year.

Caruso backed that view, saying the Giants had not been approached by rivals who could look to lure Shiel back a year before he hits free agency.

"No, at this stage it's really just speculation, and what tends to happen this time every year with Giants players is there is speculation on our players," he said.

"The good position we're in this year, and it's a credit to the list management team, is the guys who are going to get speculated about, like say Dylan, are contracted.

"Whereas in the past we would have two or three players that were in demand, [when] they're out of contract there's going to be speculation and they were maybe going to look and see what their options were. That's fair enough.

"This year, at the moment it's just speculation because they're all contracted and we haven't really started those discussions with anyone just yet."
