NORTH Melbourne has dropped off its pursuit of young Greater Western Sydney backman Jeremy Finlayson and Sydney defender Nic Newman.
The trade for Jasper Pittard from Port Adelaide, who was acquired in the deal that saw Jared Polec also become a Kangaroo, means the Roos don't have as much need for those players, Roos football manager Cameron Joyce told NAB AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday.

"With the Pittard inclusion in the Polec detail, and with the (Aaron) Hall and (Dom) Tyson pieces as well, at the moment, we're probably thinking that Jasper is that high defender, that running, kicking defender, that we've been looking for," Joyce said.
"At this stage, Jeremy is probably going to be unlikely for us."
AFL.com.au first reported the Giants were open to letting Finlayson leave in September.
It seems Newman won't be at North either, despite meeting with the club last month.

"Very similar (to Finlayson), just in terms of the type that Nic is, we've still got a fair bit on our plate to try and get done. I think it might be harder for us," Joyce said.
Yet to be completed is the exchange that would bring onballer Dom Tyson in from Melbourne.
"We've had some more discussions with Melbourne over the last 24 hours (regarding Tyson). We're trying to work towards a resolution," Joyce said.
"They've obviously got some interest in Braydon Preuss and Dom's indicated that he'd be keen to play with us.

"We've obviously got those two things in common and being able to see how the deal can get done and making sure both parties are satisfied.
"Nothing's done until it's done, but we're reasonably confident that we're both working towards a resolution there."
