Neerabup Primary School student Peter Halling got more than he bargained for when he attended last Thursday’s major schools event at Langley Park.

Peter was one of 1500 students who attended the event that was designed to help celebrate the 150th anniversary of Australian Football with a series of activities, competitions and promotions involving primary school children and AFL School Ambassadors .

The day was also used to highlight football as our national, indigenous and culturally-significant sport, healthy eating as well as physical activity through the “1 Seven: Move More, Eat Well” program, supported by Medibank Australia.

West Coast players also lent their support to the event and Peter got up close and personal with some of his heroes.

“I didn’t expect that,” an excited Peter said after being hoisted into the air by Eagle Michael Braun.

The enthusiastic students were star-struck by the presence of the Eagles who ran Eagles Faction Footy games into the afternoon.

In addition, every child received a special Australian Football 150th Year Certificate signed by 150-year Ambassador Kevin Sheedy.
