GOLD Coast defender Kade Kolodjashnij has continued his return from concerning concussion symptoms last season, taking out the Suns' 2km time trial on Tuesday after the team returned to pre-season training.  

Kolodjashnij reached the line ahead of midfielder Michael Barlow, who maintained his reputation as an elite runner but fell just short in the club's second 2km time trial of the pre-season.

Recruit Lachie Weller also impressed after crossing from Fremantle during the NAB AFL Trade Period, with defender Alex Sexton and midfielders Touk Miller and Jack Martin the others in the lead pack.

Draftee Wil Powell, who bolted from relative obscurity to be recruited with pick No.19 in last November's NAB AFL Draft, was exceptional, according to the Suns, improving on his opening time.  

Gold Coast said 35 of the 40 players who completed Tuesday's run improved on their times from last year's time trial, with the remaining five "just seconds off their time". 

Kolodjashnij, whose 2017 season was ended by repeated concussions, has built a reputation as an elite runner, taking out the Suns' opening time trial at the start of the 2017 pre-season.

His 2017 season ended abruptly, however, after lingering concussion symptoms convinced the Suns to rule him out for the rest of the season in July. 

The 22-year-old underwent testing and treatment through the second half of the season to ensure he made a full recovery.
