There was more than one victory for the Spangher family last Saturday.

Just as Matt Spangher was taking the field for the Swans on Saturday evening against Brisbane, his sister Narelle was celebrating a Grand Final victory with her team, the Balmain Dockers.

The Dockers beat Sydney University, 6.6 42 to 0.3.3, to take out the premiership in the Sydney Women’s AFL (SWAFL).

Narelle is the elder of Matt’s two sisters and is in her second year with the Dockers.

Saturday’s premiership was a fitting reward for the Balmain girls, who won every game during the home and away season, but then lost their first Semi Final.

That meant they had to get to the Grand Final the hard way, but they bounced back to win the Prelim Final and then powered home to take the spoils last Saturday.

It was a full day for Matt and Narelle’s parents, who watched the Grand Final at Macquarie University before heading to the SCG to watch their son play a big role in the Swans win over Brisbane.

Hard-nut Spangher kicked three goals in the win over the Lions, in his fourth game for the Swans after being picked up in the 2010 draft following his delisting by West Coast.

Spangher, 24, has not played in an AFL final so far in his career, so he should turn to his big sister this week for a few tips before he heads to Melbourne to play against the Saints at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
