Sydney Swans rookie Nick Smith has been named to debut on Saturday afternoon, when the Swans take on Geelong at Skilled Stadium.

Forward Nick Davis was also named to return to the side, replacing the suspended Barry Hall.

Senior coach Paul Roos said Smith's speed will be a valuable asset against Geelong.

“Geelong have some really good medium marking forwards and a lot of there midfielders go through their forward line. Probably the Malceski role is what we're looking at for Nick [Smith].
“Geelong aren't as tall but they have some good medium marking forwards. So that's what Nick brings in. He's about six foot one, got really good pace. So he'll play on those types of players down back. That type of role.

“So it's just really match ups giving a tall away for a medium because they have Kelly Johnson, Bartel and such who rotate through the forward line.”

Roos said Luke Brennan was unlucky to miss out, after playing well against West Coast.
