MELBOURNEfc has the important responsibility of identifying suitable accommodation for drafted players from the AFL National Draft in November each year.

This may involve players moving to Melbourne from interstate or country areas and stays from a few weeks to twelve months.

It is our preference for first-year players to be placed in a host family environment.

We find that host family care and support with the provision of meals, etc. enables players to settle into the club and lifestyle, while concentrating on learning and improving.

Players would need their own bedroom and generally need dinner prepared, with access to suitable food for breakfast & lunch. (NB: Young players would be expected to begin developing their cooking/food preparation skills, to assist them in the future).

Host Family’s would need to have a genuine interest in assisting young players develop and assist them deal with their relocation.

Financial support available

  • Host families receive an allowance of approx. $200/week to assist with the cost of supporting the player.
  • The club will assist each player with the purchase of some items of furniture if necessary and host families are not required to provide ‘extra’ furniture.
