CURRENT-DAY star Matthew Pavlich and former Carlton champion Andrew McKay have joined the AFL's Laws of the Game Committee following the retirement of 1961 Magarey Medallist John Halbert.

AFL general manager of football operations Adrian Anderson said the league was delighted to gain the services of Pavlich and McKay as two new members, after feedback from the AFL clubs indicated they would like to see a greater representation from current or recently-retired players.

"Matthew and Andrew have been outstanding performers at the highest level and their input will be extremely valuable as the AFL aims to ensure our game retains its great appeal," Mr Anderson said in a statement from the AFL on Friday.

Pavlich is a four-time winner of Fremantle’s best and fairest, while McKay, who is also AFL match review panel chairman, played 244 games for Carlton between 1993 and 2003.

Anderson also thanked Halbert for his efforts.

"As chairman of the laws committee and on behalf of the AFL, I would like to thank John Halbert for his contribution over the past nine years,” Anderson said.

"John has given nearly half a century of outstanding service as a player, coach and administrator, with a total commitment to the betterment of our game."

Anderson said he had written to the 16 clubs to outline the 2008 Laws of the Game process.

"The AFL is now seeking feedback on topics the AFL clubs, state leagues, players and coaches would like to raise for discussion as part of the first round of feedback," he said.

The Laws Committee now consists of Adrian Anderson (chairman), Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Brendon Gale, Andrew McKay, Matthew Pavlich, Rowan Sawers and Michael Sexton.
