NORTH Melbourne forward Ben Warren has been taken to hospital for scans on a suspected fractured cheekbone.

The 20-year-old was involved in a head clash with St Kilda's Raphael Clarke in the dying seconds of the second quarter of Saturday's match after an ill-timed fumble saw the ball spill to ground.

Warren lay prone on the turf after the incident and was eventually helped from the ground as the half time little league games went on around him.

A club official confirmed initial tests had led the club's medical staff to order him to hospital for further scans.

Warren has played eight AFL games – all this season – after being drafted 69th overall at the 2006 NAB AFL Draft. He left the game with seven possessions and one goal to his name and with his side up by 13 points.
