The AFL today announced it had concluded an investigation into betting on AFL matches or events, in contravention of AFL regulations.
AFL General Counsel Andrew Dillon said Collingwood listed player Brayden Sier had been sanctioned $5000 and required to undergo a further education course, after a matter had come to light after an examination of betting records.
Sier had placed a number of bets totalling less than $50 combined on AFL matches / events during the 2017 season. None of the bets involved were placed on any match/event involving the Collingwood Football Club.
Mr Dillon said the player’s remorse and full co-operation during the investigation had been taken into account, along with the size of the wagers, and his sanction had therefore been suspended for a two-year period.
The AFL continues to conduct regular integrity checks with all wagering partners on all players, coaches, administrators across the AFL competition as part its regulations in this area.
